In June 2011 Sandra Carlsson and her girlfriend were on vacation in Fuengirola, Spain. They stayed at Hostal El Cid, room 505.

The 30-year-old Moroccan citizen Abselam B stayed at the same hostal. The media has not given a full name to Abselam B. He is said to have entered the girls' room around 3:30 a.m., armed with a cooking knife. His intention was to rape the girls. A fight ensued, giving Sandra Carlsson a lethal cut on her neck.
